🦋 About Butterfly’s Yarn Craft

My
Story
Hello, I’m Butterfly — yes, my Chinese name Hu Die literally means “butterfly.”
Butterfly’s Yarn Craft was founded in May 2025, but its roots go much further back — to my childhood in a small, freezing city in northern China, where winters often reached –17°C.
In that cold world, warmth always came from yarn. My grandmother, my aunts, my uncle — everyone around me could knit or crochet. And of course, there was my mom.
She was an entrepreneur — strong, elegant, and endlessly creative. No matter how busy her days were, she would still sit down at night, pick up her cashmere yarn, and knit a sweater for my dad.
My grandma would knit scarves while watching TV.
And I — a little girl with clumsy hands — would sit beside them, crocheting with plush yarn, making scarves and bags for no particular reason.
Maybe I loved crochet because it finished faster… or maybe because it made me feel close to them.
When I was twelve or thirteen, I first picked up yarn for the silliest reason — to make a scarf for a boy I liked.
I’ve always loved making things by hand — bold colors, playful textures, and one-of-a-kind creations. I’ve tried felting, embroidery, cross-stitch, and so much more, but crochet is the one that truly stayed with me. When knitting and crochet became popular during COVID, I realized this wasn’t just a hobby — it was something deeply rooted in my life and heart.
Over time, the yarn became something else entirely: a language of love, patience, and memory.

In 2023, my mom passed away from lung cancer.
Her name was Haibo, which means wave in Chinese — and she is the soul behind my other brand, Bo Yarn.
A tribute to her name and her gentle influence. Her passing changed the way I saw the world. Every time I dye or blend a skein of yarn now, I feel like I’m continuing something she started — creating warmth in a quiet, handmade way.

Butterfly’s Yarn Craft is more than just a yarn studio.
It’s a place filled with colors, textures, and stories — where every skein feels alive.
Some are soft and dreamy, some bold and playful, some wonderfully weird — but all full of character and love.
I truly believe that color has a healing power.
Every shade — gentle, bright, or moody — carries warmth, calm, and comfort.
Sometimes just looking at them makes your heart soften.
That’s why I call every single skein in my studio my employee.
It might sound funny, but I see them as little souls — each with their own personality and charm.
Together, they make my space feel alive, full of creativity, laughter, and peace
